This course aims to introduce delegates to the core elements, fundamentals and competencies of real estate law principles and statutes that regulate and govern the negotiation, financing and closing of residential and commercial real estate transactions.

Course content:

Emphasis will be on the legal aspects of a transaction namely:

  • Ownership of real property
  • Contract law
  • Types of conveyances
  • Legal Descriptions, surveys and plats
  • Default and the process of foreclosure

Course outcomes:

After completing the course students will be able to:

  1. Explain the major legal concepts, principles and statutes that regulate and  govern the negotiation, financing and closing of residential and commercial real estate transactions.
  2. Distinguish the type of ownership in real property.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamentals of contract law.
  4. Identify the types of conveyances, legal descriptions and statutory controls  over real estate.
  5. Explain the conditions of default and describe the process of foreclosure.
