SAPOA and JCCI partner to address Gauteng’s water infrastructure challenges

SAPOA and the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together with the aim of resolving various challenges that affect both businesses and commercial property owners, particularly Gauteng’s water infrastructure issues.

The ongoing deterioration at municipal levels not only puts strain on the financial viability of property owners and the general business environment but also creates an environment of uncertainty that could drive investment away from South Africa’s real estate market,” comments CEO of SAPOA, Neil Gopal.

The partnership will address and provide representation on existing and proposed government policies as well as legislation and policy that has a negative impact on the sector.

Two meetings have been held with the JCCI, SAPOA, the Midrand/Waterfall Development Forum, Waterfall Management, the Town Planning Forum, OUTA, and JoburgCan where representatives of BASA and SALGA attended, together with the Joburg Chief Operating Officer and her team, to discuss the status of various construction projects relating to reservoirs, water towers and water lines in the Midrand and Waterfall area; how property developers and the private sector can work together with Joburg Water to assist with infrastructure upgrades and what Joburg Water would require to further participation – and enter – into MoU’s to assist with the water-related infrastructure.

Following a meeting between the City of Joburg’s Executive Mayor, the JCCI and SAPOA will share information and research to develop a programme that will communicate and promote their relationship to the relevant government entities.
