SAPOA proposes innovative campaign to tackle Gauteng’s dysfunctional traffic lights

SAPOA, the Gauteng Department of Transport and other partners, are working on an initiative, Adopt and Protect a Robot, which seeks to resolve some of the issues experienced with nonfunctional traffic lights in the province.

The campaign aims to forge a dynamic service delivery-oriented partnership between government, the private sector, and local communities in the fight against traffic congestion, vandalization of road infrastructure, and the dangers posed to motorists and pedestrians.

The fight can only be won through the implementation of a multidisciplinary approach, integration of plans, and resources, in pursuit of the ‘Smart Mobility’ objectives in Gauteng,” says SAPOA.

The proposal suggests that all control boxes for these non-functional robots be placed within SAPOA’s members’ shopping centres and retail assets to ensure that robots work uninterrupted.

SAPOA has provided a link to a list of intersections for members to identify closest to their properties to facilitate further engagement with government.
