Largest Hindu Temple and Cultural Complex in the Southern Hemisphere to open in Joburg

BAPS, a globally renowned sociospiritual organisation, is opening the largest Hindu Temple and Cultural Complex in the Southern Hemisphere in Northriding, Johannesburg, .

The BAPS Hindu Mandir and Cultural Complex spans 5.9 hectares, and it is envisioned as a hub for multicultural exchange, interreligious dialogue, with the community and humanitarian initiatives spearheaded by BAPS in SA.

The development features an exceptional scale and design, spanning over 37 000m2 including a Cultural Complex of 32 000m2 and a Traditional Hindu Mandir covering 2 500m2.

Constructed with sustainable practices, the project integrates thousands of tons of steel and concrete and prioritises water efficiency, solar readiness, and environmental conservation through the planting of over 500 trees.

With the support of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Dedication Ceremony of Phase 1 will take place in early February 2025.
