Property rates increased by 10.7% during 2024 (2023: 8.4%) according to StatsSA, electricity tariffs by 12.1% (2023: 15.3%) and water tariffs by 7.5% (2023: 9.6%).
Over the past ten years, property rates have increased by an average of 6.6% with water tariffs having risen the most at an average of 9.9% per year. Electricity tariffs rose by 9.5% per year.
StatsSA’s five-year analysis between 2019 and 2024 shows electricity tariffs outpacing water and property rates, growing by an average of 11.2% per year.
