WCPDF/YIPA/100UP learner workshops & job shadow programme

Property Wheel recently attended a workshop as part of a Grade 12 Learner Programme between the Western Cape Property Development Forum (WCPDF), the Western Cape chapter of the Youth in Property Association (YIPA), and UCT’s 100UP programme.

The aim of the YIPA/WCPDF/UCT 100UP partnership is to develop a better understanding among learners from disadvantaged backgrounds of the different professional paths available to them, specifically in the built environment.

Pre-Covid, the two-day (twice a year) programme saw learners spending their time Job Shadowing in offices and on building sites with companies from the industry. Post-Covid, the WCPDF has realised how important exposure remains for both learners and for the transformation of the industry and in 2022, the programme reshaped into a component of the UCT 100UP Saturday morning workshops held on campus.

During these workshops, intro presentations are given by various professionals with interactive Q&A/networking sessions with the learners. The job shadow component of the partnership will recommence in September 2024.

The recent workshop included presentations by Dacre Hattingh (Eris Property Group Development Manager and WCPDF ManComm Member), Boutros Mbina (Nedbank), Tashreeq Jaffar (STBB), Francois Nortje (Osmond Lange Architects), Bonke Similane (Project Manager, AL&A), Roekeya Bardien (QS and Construction, Damon Abadia Consulting), and Kabous Fouche (Rohloff Group).

Companies or professionals wishing to volunteer to be a panelist at a future workshop or to participate in the next job shadow programme in September can contact Carola Koblitz – admin@wcpdf.co.za.
