The rebirth of Moratiwa Crossing

Witness the transformation of Moratiwa Crossing, a beloved Limpopo community shopping centre that has been a cornerstone in Monsterlus and surrounds. From humble beginnings, the Masemola family’s dream of creating a shopping haven for their community is coming to fruition with the completion of the third phase in the development.

The expansion of Moratiwa Crossing is testament to the commitment of providing a premium community shopping experience. The addition of 11 000m2 in the latest phase brings the total gross lettable area (GLA) to an impressive 26 000m2. This extension accommodates the growing needs of the community and introduces a host of new and exciting tenants, ready to elevate the shopping experience to new heights.

Among the exciting additions to Moratiwa Crossing are renowned retail brands such as Shoprite, Truworths, Studio 88, Skipper Bar, Flag Square, Power Fashion, Clicks, King Pie, Hungry Lion, Daniel J, Sport Scene, Exact and Totalsports. This is an ideal tenant mix that has been carefully selected to cater to a diverse range of interests and preferences, ensuring that there is something for everyone- both residents and visitors- and that meets the demands of the market. The upgraded Moratiwa Crossing will be the go-to shopping centre in the Monsterlus area, securing the community’s trade and shopping experience for many years to come.

Situated at the pivotal intermodal connectivity of Groblersdal to Bronkhorstspruit, Sehlakwane to Stoffberg, Phokwane to Janefurse, Moratiwa Crossing is poised to become a premier shopping destination in the region. A vibrant area and home to a community known for its farming and mining activities within a 30 km radius, this revitalised shopping centre, valued at approximately R450 million, will be a jewel in the crown of Our Generations, as mentioned by Michael Masemola, CEO of the RPIH group of companies and Our Generations Property newly formed fund collectively.

This is a very personal story that my parents have been planning since 1969 when they were still tenants on the NG Kerk land until 1985 when they eventually bought the land,” says Masemola.

The centre’s rich history is interwoven with the legacy of the Bosele School for the Disabled, formerly known as the School for the Deaf and Blind. This institution will play a significant role in the opening ceremony as Mr. Masemola Senior has chosen Bosele School as the company’s corporate social investment (CSI) focus during the development phase, adhering to an adopted environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework. This commitment underscores the family’s dedication to community support and inclusivity.

For the first time in the history of most retail developments, Moratiwa Crossing will be able to cater comprehensively to the needs of deaf, blind and generally disabled persons. This groundbreaking initiative aims to set a new standard for accessibility, ensuring that all residents in the community can enjoy the shopping centre’s amenities.

In addition to its inclusive design, Moratiwa Crossing integrates sustainability into its infrastructure. Addressing frequent load shedding issues, the centre has made a significant investment in solar energy, amounting to R17 million. The solar investment will ensure a reliable power supply, reducing the environmental footprint and operational costs of the shopping centre. This forward-thinking approach enhances the shopping experience and aligns with broader environmental sustainability goals.

Moratiwa Crossing stands as a testament to visionary planning, community commitment and sustainable development. With its grand opening on the horizon, the revitalised shopping centre promises to be a beacon of progress, a symbol of the enduring legacy of the Masemola family and their dedication to building a brighter, more inclusive future for all.

The long-awaited redevelopment of Moratiwa Crossing is a significant milestone for the community in the primary and secondary catchment areas. Mark your calendars for the grand opening of the redeveloped Moratiwa Crossing on the 27th of June 2024 and join us as we celebrate the next chapter in the legacy of Moratiwa Crossing – a place where community, commerce and dreams converge to create a brighter future for all.
