Trade in South Africa’s major shopping centres slowed further during Q3 2023 according to the MSCI South Africa Quarterly Retail Trading Density Index which collects data for 137 retail centres covering more than 5.7 million square metres.
The index’s trading density ended the quarter at an annualised R40,20 per square metre, well clear of its pre-pandemic marker of R35.00 per square metre. Year-on-year growth in the index’s annualised trading density decelerated to 5.7% from 7.6% in the previous quarter.
