Global commercial property performance cooled during 2022 as the sector faced several economic and geopolitical headwinds. The MSCI Global Annual Property Index recorded a total return of 3.8% for the year which was well off 2021’s 13.1% when the industrial sector (in particular) performed well on the back of unprecedented demand.
Capital growth for 2022 was barely positive at 0.2% with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) forecast that global growth would slow from 6.1% in 2021 to 3.6% in 2022 and 2.7% in 2023 – the weakest growth since the global financial crisis of 2008/2009.
