Deadline looms for Joburg property owners wanting to lodge valuation objections

Property owners in Johannesburg are reminded that they have until the 5th of May 2023 to lodge objections against any entry in the municipality’s General Valuation Roll (GVR) 2023 and that there won’t be any extensions beyond the closing date.

According to the City of Johannesburg, there has been a steady increase of residents who are lodging objections.

The municipality originally opened the GVR 2023 inspection and objection period from the 15th of February 2023 to the 31st of March 2023, but it extended the closing date to the 5th of May 2023.

For individual objections, property owners can register online. Alternatively, they can visit one of the City’s Customer Service Centres.

Property owners who wish to bring their bulk objections are advised not to visit the Customer Service Centres but to rather approach the valuation office (Valuation Administration, 1st Floor, Jorissen Place, 66 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein) where they will be allowed to wait for all the bulk submission to be captured and be provided with reference numbers before leaving.
