Liberty Two Degrees’ head office in Sandton has been awarded a 6-Star Green Star Interiors V1 As built rating by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).
The project was undertaken with the appointment of project consultants, Solid Green, who managed the Green Star rating process.
“They worked closely with the entire professional team. Thanks to careful planning, we were able to rate very highly on the Management component of the Green Star ratings tool. We also rated well on environmental management, where points were achieved under the Innovation category,” said Brian Unsted, Asset Management Executive at L2D and also the current Chairman of the GBCSA.
Considerations for the project included energy efficient appliances, plug-loads, and paint, adhesive sealants, and carpets – all with low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. The furniture, assemblies and floor coverings used all have third party eco-labels and certification ensuring that they also reduce their environmental impact. South Africa is a water-scarce country and so the premises are designed with water efficient fittings that limit the occupant water usage. The premises also has a centralised waste recycling storage facility, for sorting and collecting of operational waste.
This accolade of L2D’s head office follows in the footsteps of its flagship asset, the Sandton City Precinct, Africa’s leading mixed-use precinct, recently being awarded a 6-Star Green Star EBP Rating by the GBCSA.
