Part of the vaccine manufacturing facility in Cape Town’s Brakengate Business Park, officially opened by President Cyril Ramaphosa last year, is up for rent after demand for the Covid-19 vaccine dissipated.
The A-Grade big box warehousing with modern offices measuring 1 670m² and a warehouse size of 10 860m², was mooted by Ramaphosa as “a milestone in Africa’s onward march towards health” when he opened it in January 2021. Nineteen months later, the facility, which has easy access to the R300 and the Cape Metropole with 130 parking bays, is looking for a tenant.
“The company who owns the buildings is looking to lease one of two buildings on the campus in the interim, while their production requirements scale up,” said Shane Howe, Broll Property Group Head of Industrial Broking Western Cape. “The property is available due to increased operational efficiencies, technological advances in manufacturing and reduced demand for Covid-19 vaccines.”
It was built 10 years ago specifically for a tobacco company and has A-Grade office space that lends itself to a business which values its corporate image.
The property is zoned for mixed-use with an asking price of R75 nett per square metre.
