SAPOA’s Western Cape Chapter recently held its first local networking event in over two years.
In partnership with Principal Sponsor, Old Mutual Properties and Supporting Sponsor, Boxwood Property Fund, 100 plus property professionals gathered under the roof of SALT at The Box, 9 Lower Burg Street which forms part of the iconic Premium-Grade building, The Box – one of the tallest commercial buildings in Cape Town CBD.
Speaking at the event, Kevin Roman, Chairperson of the Western Cape Chapter, expressed his excitement at being able to bring the industry together once again:
“Things are definitely improving and looking positive for the industry. The office market is still suffering, with a slow recovery, but there are alternatives and opportunities to reinvent”.
“SAPOA formed part of an initiative in 1999 that then sought to address Cape Town CBD’s decline. The Box is a great example – what a renewal! Capetonians can now walk around the city, with the metro police visible as well as Cape Town Central City Improvement District’s (CCID) Public Safety Officers – these are initiatives that SAPOA brought to the fore, where property owners, like Boxwood Property Fund, have contributed to this cause”.
Attendees included members and guests – old faces, new faces and a younger generation of property professionals.
“I am encouraged by the attendance of the younger professionals attending this event. I am in my 33rd year of property and I am willing to pass on as much knowledge as I can where the younger generation brings the latest theoretic knowledge that I can learn from. Events like these offer endless opportunity for networking. For example, graduate engineers can connect with established property developers. There is a pool of knowledge under one roof that can be tapped into”.
“I am very excited about the prospects going forward for our industry – for Cape Town in particular, but for South Africa as a whole”.
