The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has awarded Rabie’s Sable Corner with a 4-Star Green Star Office v1.1 Design certification.

In addition, Sable Park, which has already been awarded a 5-Star Green Star – Office v1.1 Design certification, has now also received the accolade of a 5-Star Green Star – Office as Built v1.1 certification.

I always enjoy seeing certified green buildings in ‘real life’ – they are inspiring examples of built sustainability. Sable Corner and Sable Park are important pieces within broader green design in the area. Congratulations to Rabie on this green achievement, and for their commitment and vision going forward”, commented CEO of the GBCSA, Lisa Reynolds, on handing over the new plagues to Rabie recently.

Situated in the Bridgeways Precinct, Sable Park also won the South African Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA) Awards for Innovative Excellence in the 2019 Office Developments, Commercial category. Home to Discovery, MTN, Byte Orbit, Sasfin, and ICLEI, Sable Park is within walking distance of everything the Bridgeways precinct has to offer – restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, a gym, and the new Ratanga Park public green open space.

Our most recently completed development, Bridgewater, is currently being assessed for its mixed-use As Built Design rating,” says Colin Anderson, COO at Rabie. “We trust that it will follow in the footsteps of Century City Square, which was awarded a 4-Star Green Star mixed-use rating by the GBCSA, the first of its kind in South Africa. That will take the tally up to 13 Green Star buildings that Rabie has developed in Century City, something we are very proud of.”

Environmental sustainability is a key element for Century City, Cape Town’s smart city. One of the five Century City smart city segments is Smart Environmental Sustainability, which focuses on growing and developing responsibly. Therefore, green building principles form a significant part of achieving the goals set out by Century City.  Through creating an environment where people can walk and cycle, carbon emissions are reduced. Energy efficiency, water efficiency and smart ways of managing waste are all part of the Century City daily way of life.

There are currently 22 developments in Century City that have received Green Building Council Certifications. Eight of these buildings have achieved 5-Star Green Star ratings, one being Canal Walk Shopping Centre for existing building performance, awarded in 2020. The Zutari building, developed by Rabie, was the first 5-Star Green Star rated building in South Africa. The remainder have all achieved 4-star Green Star ratings.

Rabie now boasts a total of ten Green Star rated buildings in Century City.
