The Department of Human Settlements (DHS) and the Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF), a foundation under Afribiz Invest, coordinated a food parcel handover campaign as part of its Nelson Mandela Day contribution.

Initiated in 2009 by the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Nelson Mandela Day encourages every individual and organisation to take 67 minutes to service the people of South Africa.

The campaign, by way of packaged food parcels, supported fifty destitute families in the nine wards of the Dr JS Moroka Municipality in Mpumalanga who are reliant on various government grants and in need of housing.

The remaining forty-six families collected their food parcels at identified central points in each of the nine wards which were manned by the responsible councillors and supported by CDW’s and other government officials.

The activities of the day adhered to strict Covid-19 health and safety protocols of alert level 4.
