Joburg property owners urged to revalue their damaged properties

The City of Johannesburg is urging property owners to have their properties revalued if the structures of their buildings have been damaged.

The Municipal Property Rates Act allows for a supplementary valuation do be done with effect from the date of the occurrence. This falls under Sect 78 (1)(d) (value substantially increased or decreased) of the Municipal Property Rates Act.

Properties will be valued on consideration of the extent of the damage done, how long it might take to repair as well as the cost of repairs.

An inspection will be done by the City’s valuation department to establish the extent of the damage and the cost to repair. Once repairs have been completed, the property will be revalued again.

Property owners can email valuationenquiries@joburg.co.za or call 011 407 6622 / 011 407 6597 to obtain a copy of the application form which needs to be completed.

The completed application form must be emailed to the above email address together with a damage report for the cost of the repairs to the structure of the building and the time frame for completion of the repairs to the structure of the building.
