Devco Group has signed an agreement with Marriott International to open a Protea Hotels by Marriott as part of its new mixed-use development. The Admiral Beach Hotel and Apartments in the Western Cape’s Struisbaai is scheduled to open in 2023. The hotel will be known as the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Agulhas, situated on the southernmost tip of the African continent.

Deon Winterbach, Director of Devco Group comments:

“Marriott International is extremely good at what they do with more than 6,900 hotels in the group world-wide and a strong and growing loyalty membership base. We are very proud to be partnering with this international brand and we look forward to welcome travellers to the southernmost hotel in Africa when the development is completed. The construction of the development will commence in 2020.”

Volker Heiden, Area Vice President, Protea Hotels by Marriott, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International says: “We are excited to work with Devco Group to bring Protea Hotels by Marriott to the southern tip of the continent. The hotel will assist in meeting the rising demand for high-quality lodging in areas outside of the major cities in South Africa. Cape Agulhas is a major tourist attraction in South Africa and this property will be a great choice for local and international tourists travelling into the city.”

The new Cape Agulhas addition will include 160 keys, a speciality restaurant, indoor and outdoor bars, a sheltered deck and swimming pool and fitness facilities. It will also be equipped with a business centre, conference facilities and venue management services for weddings and other events. Situated directly on the beachfront, the 14 kilometre stretch of coastline is where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet.

Alongside the Protea Hotel by Marriott Cape Agulhas, the mixed-use development will consist of apartments available for buyers and investors, with the first apartments already on the market.
