Picturesque Yzerfontein on the West Coast is buzzing with building activity as more families move into the area, says Pam Golding Properties.

“With the availability of bus routes to the Curro school in Langebaan as well as the Darling College nearby, a growing number of families are choosing to settle in Yzerfontein to take advantage of the coastal lifestyle,” say Sheena Nutter and Ilona du Toit, Pam Golding Properties agents for Yzerfontein and Darling. “There’s been an explosion of building activity and there are quite a few homes under construction.” The Swartland Municipality approved building plans for almost 500 new homes from July 2015 to July 2016, and since then, more than 200 additional new builds have been given the green light.

Pam Golding Properties has an extensive portfolio of properties in Yzerfontein, including vacant plots selling from R500 000 and established homes starting at R1,6 million. Already popular with holidaymakers and Capetonians wanting a nearby weekend getaway, Yzerfontein is fast becoming a sought-after place to live. The peak in the number of property registrations, from 115 in 2015 to 138 in 2016, underlines the growing popularity of this seaside haven. Nutter says buyers want to live in a community that offers their children the opportunity to experience an alternative lifestyle to city living, without being too far from the amenities available in Langebaan or Cape Town.

With just one secure access route into the town, residents and visitors can enjoy Yzerfontein’s restaurants, coffee shops and recreational activities with peace of mind. Located about 90km north of Cape Town, Yzerfontein boasts some of the Cape’s most unspoiled beaches, and its 16-mile beach is the longest continuous strip of beach in the country. In Spring, the Southern Right Whales are frequent visitors and the fields are awash with iridescent wildflowers.

Sue Smuts, Pam Golding Properties rental agent for Yzerfontein, says the market for weekend and holiday accommodation, as well as long-term rentals, is also showing steady growth.
