Property Point, the award-winning enterprise and supplier development initiative founded by Growthpoint Properties, has opened the door to limitless opportunities for 10 SMEs with a sponsorship to attend the Smart Procurement World Indaba in Johannesburg this September.
This annual event affords fresh insight into various procurement and supply management topics and also features an enterprise and supplier development expo.
Shawn Theunissen, Head of Property Point and Head of CSR at Growthpoint Properties, is excited about the opportunities this represents for the entrepreneurs. He says: “With this sponsorship, we aim to open important doors for the 10 proven small businesses that will attend with Property Point. Besides great networking opportunities for any business, insights from expert speakers and exposure to business best practice, this platform provides valuable access to procurement and supply chain decision-makers.”
Theunissen adds: “Property Point is proud to partner with dynamic entrepreneurs, working with them to grow their SMEs into sustainable businesses that also have added benefits like job creation. We find the biggest challenge for SMEs is finding real procurement opportunities. By giving entrepreneurs unprecedented access to decision makers, we’re making a real impact in growing small businesses. Activities like the ‘Supplier Matchup’ session provide a platform for SMEs to connect with people who are looking for partners and has great potential to lead to contract opportunities.”
Established in 2008, Property Point has seen almost 114 SMEs participate in its two-year incubation programme. It provides entrepreneurs operating within South Africa’s property sector with the necessary skills, coaching and personal development they need to grow their businesses and see them reach their full potential, compete in the open market and meet the industry’s supply chain needs. Eight years after it began its work, Property Point has had significant impacts.
Generating over R453 million in procurement opportunities for these SMEs, Property Point’s programme has assisted these enterprises in achieving a reported revenue growth of 76% and has also been instrumental in growing these small business to create over 1,309 jobs so far.
Highlighting the passion for enterprise development of its partners, like Growthpoint and Attacq Limited, Property Point hopes to give the sponsored small businesses greater insight into procurement processes and opportunities at the Smart Procurement World Indaba.
“We have already proven that SMEs working through the Property Point programme are well equipped with the necessary skills to compete in any environment and we are excited to introduce these 10 businesses to other like minded corporates,” says Theunissen.
