Signatura and GAIN launch a new prime new Sea Point development

Signatura and GAIN launch a new prime new Sea Point development offering spectacular ocean and mountain views.

A prime new Sea Point development, known as The Barkly, will offer eight meticulously-designed units combining spectacular views with cosmopolitan urban convenience.

The residences will be perfectly located on the corner of Barkly Road and Ocean View Drive, an arterial route linking the Atlantic Seaboard to the city centre.

In addition to the glorious mountain and ocean vistas, residents will have all the convenience of modern shopping centres, restaurants and coffee shops just down the road. Piazza St. John in the Main Road offers outlets such as Woolworths, Ocean Basket, trendy shops and coffee bars, while The Point offers everything from groceries to medical services.

The building is a joint venture by Signatura, the private label property brand of John Rabie (founder of the highly successful Rabie Property Group) and GAIN property consultants and developers. GAIN CEO Ari Efstathiou and Rabie have previously collaborated on the Chelsea on Main apartments in Green Point.

Architect Juan Bernicchi, who has worked with Signatura on a number of previous projects, has laid out a blueprint in a contemporary architectural idiom, with characteristically clean lines and strong sculptural elements.

Bernicchi and his talented team have ensured every element of the development complements the exemplary setting. It has been meticulously designed to ensure the building is pleasing on the eye, while functioning optimally.

The Barkly offers five two-bedroom residences, two on the first floor and three on the second floor. They range from 83m² to 128m², each with a north-facing terrace. Prices start at R4,65 million.

There is also a three-bedroom unit on the first floor, with an extensive 73m² terrace. Two penthouse apartments (of 154m² and 164m², on the third floor) each feature three bedrooms, with a 20m² and 37m² terrace.

Parking access is directly from Ocean View Drive into a secure area, while dedicated pedestrian access into the lift lobby is from Barkly Road.

“It’s rare to acquire a site like this, offering so much potential,” said Rabie. “We’re accordingly maximizing this great location with architecture and design that will create beautiful, highly functional modern apartments with great visual and sensory appeal.”

The interior and external spaces will be integrated with fine detailing and the use of a grey to off-white palette, creating a warm but modern ambiance. At ground level the building will be set back from the boundary to form a comfortable interface with the street scape.

The terraces will be deep-set and thus shaded from the strong overhead sun in summer, but will allow warm winter sunshine to pour in during the cooler months. Extensive landscaping will include a planted parking roof slab and trees along the Ocean View street edge and pedestrian walkway

The development is scheduled for occupation in May 2017.
