As at Q4 2015, the national office vacancy rate as recorded by SAPOA was 10.5 % which is virtually unchanged on the 10.6 % recorded for the quarter before.
The sideways trend of the last five years remain firmly intact – ever since vacancies increased to 9.8 % post the recession of 2009. The second quarter of 2015 saw a promising 60bp improvement – the largest quarter-on-quarter decline since 2008 – but, there still isn’t a clear downward trend with more than half of office nodes surveyed reporting deteriorating vacancy rates compared to the quarter before.
