Yondele Silimela, Executive Director, Development Planning City of Johannesburg

The face of the South African property sector is changing as woman make inroads into this traditionally male-dominated industry.

Genevieve Naidoo, the Women’s Property Network (WPN) Chairwoman, acknowledges that the times are certainly changing, as women continue to climb the corporate ladders across the real estate sector.

In the last few years the sector has seen several women appointed as the CEO’s of property companies, as well as the key appointment of the third female president (since1966) of the South African Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA).

On 29 October 2015, WPN celebrated women in the South African property sector at a gala dinner at the Sun Square Ballroom, Montecasino.

This prestigious event was proudly sponsored by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), with the awards sponsored by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The awards were a collaborative platform dedicated to recognizing outstanding leadership, inspiration, vision and innovation in organisations that have stepped up and shaped women’s roles within the private and public sectors.

“The award categories reflect a wide spectrum of work these deserving women from the public and private sectors are involved in. This includes CEO’s, executives and leaders in corporate South Africa, SMME’s, government departments and agencies, as well as entrepreneurs,” says Sandi Mbutuma, WPN Executive, Marketing and Advocacy.

The following nominees were recognized in their respective award categories:
