New Community Centre for Kindlewood Estate

Kindlewood Estate residents will enjoy full use of the newly-opened Community Centre situated in the heart of the upmarket residential estate.

The spacious community centre was officially opened on 10 September, 18 months after construction began.

Developed by Tongaat Hulett, the sought-after estate – found immediately south of the Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estates on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast- will eventually boast approximately 573 units when Phase 5 development is completed.

The 350m2 two-story building is surrounded by an expansive verandah on the upper level, providing visitors with a magnificent view overlooking the estate’s eco-corridors and picturesque wetland. A lounge, kitchen, multipurpose room and toilet facilities make this building suitable for a variety of functions.

A sparkling lap pool, which heads off the centre building, will bring welcome respite during the summer months. Downstairs, the function room leads out onto a lush lawn which slopes towards the tennis court, cricket net and playing field on the level below. Younger children will have endless fun in the secure, fenced-in play area alongside.

“The entire feel of the Kindlewood Estate Community Centre resonates with the architectural style found throughout the development, embracing clear and elegant elements,” explained Mondli Msani, Development Manager of Tongaat Hulett Developments.

“In line with the outdoor living emphasis – which features in every home, the wrap-around natal verandah allows visitors the opportunity to enjoy the stunning views, while the earthy facebrick, cream walls and green roofs complement the natural landscape beautifully.”

The design for the community centre was initiated through a competition, with the final touches decided by the residents’ committee.

Vic Crowther, Kindlewood’s executive estate manager, said the community centre greatly enhanced the value of the estate.

“Residents now have access to high-quality facilities right on their doorstep,” said Crowther. “The centre will serve to further develop the community feel that makes Kindlewood such a great place to live, while the architectural style of the building remains in keeping with the tranquil lifestyle enjoyed by the residents.”

In addition to the Community Centre facilities, residents can enjoy a number of enchanting walks through the well-managed wetland areas, all within a secure environment.

Vaughan Simpson, Chairman of the Kindlewood Management Association Board of Directors, was quoted as follows:

“The establishing of the Kindlewood Community Centre marks an historic and momentous event in the brief timeline of Kindlewood Estate. The KMA is exceptionally proud to be the custodian of this prestigious asset to our beautiful Estate. It serves to bring together our diverse community, as well as add value to Kindlewood Estate as a product and brand.”
