1. Give us a background of the API Summit?
In its 5th year, the annual API Summit is a renowned platform for top tier investors and property professionals to meet, discuss industry trends and learn from leading experts in the industry. This industry-recognised event is widely known for its relevant discussion topics featuring an exciting line up of speakers, geared to help delegates understand African real estate markets. As Africa’s growth outlook continues, the API Summit tackles key issues pertaining to investment, development and management around the region’s real estate sector. We believe collaboration is the key driver behind projects in Africa and our goal is to connect Africa’s leading real estate professionals with an aim to drive investment on the continent.
2. API Summit is a leading event on the African continent, how is the summit hoping to facilitate the African property sector?
As a leader in the industry, we gather our vast network of delegates around the continent and globe in a singular, quality-learning environment. Delegates receive maximum networking exposure in order to connect with property professionals from an array of peripheral industries, including finance, legal and construction. Our selection of leading property experts share insights on stage and allow delegates access to the latest property research and innovations on the continent to further facilitate growth in the industry.
3. What differentiates the API summit from other property events?
As the leading commercial real estate event, we provide delegates with exclusive platforms to network, gain further exposure and increase their knowledge on Pan African markets. With a unique mix of panel discussions, focused breakaway sessions and keynote speakers, the API Summit provides an unparalleled opportunity not seen in the industry. This year we have also introduced our Executive training in which delegates learn first hand how to build financial models in excel. Furthermore the API Summit is widely differentiated from other property events as we showcase our Africa focused exhibition as well as our annual “ Africa Speed Networking Sessions”.
4. What makes Property an important sector for the African continent?
The commercial property sector plays an integral role in defining and shaping the continents economic, retail and residential hubs. As Africa continues to grow and further develop, there is need for substantial investment into property and infrastructure to sustain international interest and FDI. With a rapidly growing populace, increased GDP rates in Africa, the need for increased volumes of quality commercial and residential real estate types is ever important.

Johannesburg can be classified as Sub Saharan Africa’s leading economic hub in which to do business. With this in mind, we believe providing a central location with access to various companies and their head offices, will allow delegates to set up meetings post conference and engage in ample business transactions. Our regional conferences namely the East Africa Property Investment Summit (EAPI) and West Africa Property Investment Summit (WAPI) in Kenya and Ghana respectively, cater for individuals unable to attend the Johannesburg event.
6. What opportunities and other developments/progress has the API Summit enabled?
As a driver of growth on the continent, we have also enabled delegates to gain insight into specific regions such as West Africa and East Africa via our regional specific events (namely WAPI and EAPI Summit). We have events running throughout the year with a focus on readily available, up to date information for professionals engaging in Africa expansion plans. Furthermore we are launching the Africa Property Investment tracker – a tool aimed to help developers, investors, and other property experts’ to track and post projects on the region.

8. What are your hopes for the Property Sector on the continent?
