John Patterson served his articles at Webber Wentzel Bowens. Prior to joining the financial services industry, he was an Associate Director at Fitch Ratings and he was responsible for rating over R25 million of debt funding in the South African Capital Markets. He joined Investec Bank Limited in 2005 where he was Head of Debt Capital Markets and he was a member of Investecs Strategic Asset / Liability Committee. Here, he was responsible for raising an excess of R10 billion of debt against Investecs various property portfolios and he oversaw a capital markets debt portfolio of approximately R20 billion. He was also part of the team that was responsible for a number of securitisation, commercial paper and bond transactions for corporates including listed property counters. John then left Investec to establish an independent debt advisory business focusing on inter alia, funding structures for the commercial property sector. .
