Kliptown businesses are to benefit from more than R1,5 million for remedial planned maintenance which includes painting of boundary walls and existing fences as well as cleaning services for the Kliptown Golf Course development. This is as a result of Jozi@Work, a mayoral initiative aimed at empowering ordinary Johannesburg residents and creating thousands of job opportunities in response to the triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality.
The programme is designed to create an opportunity for communities to partner with the City in the delivery of municipal services in their own neighbourhoods. All city owned entities including are participating in this programme.
Jozi@Work, which will see over R1 billion in city contracting services by an estimated 1750 new and existing community level co-operatives and enterprises, supporting 12,500 permanent livelihoods in the first year of the programme alone, with a total of 40,000 new jobs servicing the City’s spend across 9 sectors by the close of the current mayoral term.
Says MMC of Housing: Cllr Dan Bovu, “As part of the JOZI@work programme, cooperatives or micro businesses will receive mentorship and skills transfer from larger contracting entities. Ten co-ops or micro business from the region will be appointed to complete the work at Kliptown Golf Course, and the renovations are expected to create at least 50 jobs. Work starts this month and is expected to be complete in July.”
In addition, Joscho has allocated cleaning packages worth R3 million to Joburg micro businesses over the next six months. About 24 small cleaning businesses will benefit and a further R3 million in cleaning packages will be issued during the last six months of Joscho’s financial year end which will be allocated to another 24 small businesses.
Joshco’s Kliptown Golf Course Estate, which is part of the Greater Kliptown Urban Re-development Programme, offers more than 1410 housing rental units at between R600 and R3397 per month. It is well situated and features a live and work model allowing residents to work out of their homes or establish businesses that capitalise on passing trade.

Joscho provided 24-hour access control, secure parking, safe play areas for children, greened the environment all to ensure a greater quality of life for the tenants.
