New Pinelands Grove retirement village launched in Cape Town

With retirement accommodation in short supply, the launch of a new retirement development in Pinelands in Cape Town, with 218 independent living units provided for retirees over 50 years of age, will help meet this growing demand, says Bev Bloch, Pam Golding Properties development sales executive in the Western Cape Metro Region.

“With completion of ’Pinelands Grove’ retirement village expected in December this year (2015) and occupation scheduled for February 2016, construction is well under way on the site of this project, which is conveniently nestled into the leafy suburb of Pinelands.

“Units are sold on a life rights basis and the retirement village is managed by the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA), which has over 62 years of experience and has 25 different villages under their management. The self-catering apartments are well priced from R495 000 to R575 000 for a studio unit, from R895 000 to R1.095 million for a one bedroom unit and from R1.295 million to R1.395 million for a two bedroom unit. A diverse range of choice is available from traditional studio to spacious two bedroom units, all developed around appealing garden courtyards. Furthermore, should it ever be needed, assisted living services will be available within one’s own apartment.

“Such a diverse range of choice, plus the option of assisted living at a later stage gives buyers and their immediate family peace of mind in knowing that all their requirements are catered for. If at a later stage a resident should ever require frail care, there is also comfort in the fact that they will then have access to CPOA’s additional facilities without having to join a long waiting list,” says Bloch.

Located in a peaceful and secure environment, Pinelands Grove offers residents basic health care with 16 meals included in the monthly levy, and with a heated swimming pool, gym, lounges, bar, hairdresser and coin-operated laundry on site. Purchasers on the ground floor level are permitted to keep pets under 10kg.

As a suburb, the tree-lined streets of Pinelands draw all age groups, but particularly family buyers who enjoy the tranquillity, greenery and air of spaciousness, with sprawling homesteads and attractive, well-maintained gardens. The area is home to two shopping centres, coffee shops and restaurants as well as doctors, dentists, lawyers and other professional services. There are also sporting facilities available including tennis and lawn bowling clubs. The Mowbray Golf Course, renowned for its views and bird life, is also just around the corner from Pinelands Grove.

Says Bloch: “This new retirement development offers residents a close-knit community where there is something for everyone, whether they seek privacy or to participate in group activity, or relaxing by the pool. Over and above your own private kitchen, there is a centralised kitchen and a large dining room where residents can sit down to well-prepared meals.

“Here residents can enjoy a healthy lifestyle in a vibrant community, and dedicate their time to enjoying life to the full in a comfortable and carefree environment. Internet and WiFi facilities enable connectivity keeping one in touch with family and friends wherever they are. Every detail has been considered, from the laundry service for residents’ convenience to the secure parking on the property. A central reception area, linked to each home via a communication system, creates a welcoming entrance to the estate.”

CPOA has developed a health care facility on site with a wide range of professional nursing services. Closed circuit television cameras at all communal external entrance doors as well as the reception, which allow for 24 hour a day monitoring, while access to the premises is controlled and the perimeter secured with electric fencing.

The village will also be equipped with a state-of-the-art fire and smoke detection system with at least one detector in each apartment. Facilities have been designed with wheelchairs and walkers in mind, ensuring access for any mobility-impaired residents.
