Middelburg in Mpumalanga is famous for the steeples and clock towers that create its distinctive skyline. In honour of this characteristic symbol of its local built environment, Middelburg Mall will soon add another landmark clock tower to the town.

The new Middelburg Mall Clock Tower forms part of a R200 million extension that will also introduce an impressive 12,000sqm of added prime retail space to the mall, to meet the demand of South Africa’s top retailers and the needs of local shoppers.

Mike Tammadge, General Manager of Middelburg Mall explains, “By incorporating the Clock Tower in the design of our extension, the mall will echo its local backdrop. It is a nod to our local heritage, and embodies the coming together of old and new.”

The Clock Tower also gives Middelburg Mall another appealing design focal point and, quite literally, raises its visibility.

The Clock Tower will be a total of three storeys or 52m high and 5.2m wide. Its attractive design will include three clock faces. It will stand proudly near Middelburg Mall Entrance Five, close to Gold Rush Gaming. In fact, shoppers visiting Nedbank Business Banking will enter directly under the Clock Tower.

Construction of second phase of Middelburg Mall is well underway. While shoppers will see the Clock Tower going up soon, the striking new extension of the mall will officially open on 16 October 2014, with a new and exciting line-up this summer. This includes a 3,750sqm Spar with a 250sqm Tops at Spar. It will also feature an 800sqm Ackermans.

Adding to its retail appeal is a mix of in-demand shops, among them a 1,500sqm Dis-Chem and 700sqm Mr Price Sport. Another highlight of the bigger Middelburg Mall is hot Australian brand Cotton On. They will open their first shop in Middelburg offering the latest trends in fashion and accessories.

With over 90 retailers already at Middelburg Mall, including Woolworths, Edgars and Game, as well as an array of food and banking options, the new phase will incorporate even more quality retail under one roof.

Middelburg Mall is owned by Flanagan & Gerard Property Investments and the Moolman Group. The mall is ideally situated just off the N4 highway and is easily accessible from the Samora Machel Avenue (formally Fontein Street) off-ramp and Tswelopele Street intersection.

The expansion has been carefully planned to result in minimal disruption for shoppers and will open on time for the festive season with greatly enhanced retail variety, convenience and choice.
