Named as one of the top lifestyle estates in Gauteng, the 40-hectare Eagle Canyon Golf Estate is located in the heart of Honeydew on the West Rand and offers a lifestyle that few estates can compete with in Johannesburg. Aside from excellent security and all the amenities you could wish for, this estate boasts magnificent vistas, a tranquil atmosphere and beautiful grounds that make it extremely popular.
“Eagle Canyon has a property for everyone, with prices ranging from approximately R1 million to R16 million,” notes Debby Woodward, one of Pam Golding Properties’ (PGP’s) real estate agents for Eagle Canyon. Debby Woodward and PGP’s other agent for the area, Pat Wallace, have been selling properties in the estate since 2006. Pat Wallace lives in Eagle Canyon, so she is very familiar with all it has to offer.
“There is a varied mix of sectional title and full title properties in the 1 390 residences on the estate,” says Pat Wallace. “Eagle Canyon undoubtedly offers estate living to meet every kind of need. This is what makes it so sought after — for single parents, families and young professionals alike. Investors also find that there is good capital growth on properties in the estate and that they get solid rental returns.”
For the sport enthusiasts, there is an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and a gym, while those who enjoy the outdoors will appreciate the kilometres of tranquil walking trails, beautiful parks, abundant bird life and fishing dams. There is even a wellness centre and spa for those who prefer to be pampered close to home, and restaurants and conference facilities if you’d like to entertain on a large scale.
Although the estate has a country feel to it, it is central to many large shopping malls and places of entertainment. Clearwater Mall is just around the corner while the newly developed Cradlestone Mall is also in close proximity. Other shopping centres like Northgate Mall and Randridge Mall are nearby. The N1 concrete highway is also within a short driving distance, providing access to all main city centres.
For the family-focused Eagle Canyon has many excellent private and government schools in the vicinity, including Aurora College, Trinity House, Charter House, Boskop Primary School, Randpark Primary School, Randpark High School, Weltevreden Primary School and Allen’s Nek High School.
Eagle Canyon originally comprised 16 smallholdings, however in the 1960s mining companies began quarrying the land. It was mined for about 40 years and then rehabilitated in 2003, following plans for the development of a golf course, dams and leisure area and more than 700 residential homes. The name ‘Eagle Canyon’ combined the ‘canyon’ feel of the quarry and the close proximity of the Roodekrans Black Eagle Project.
The newest addition to Eagle Canyon is the sectional title townhouse development, Whistling Straits, which has 37 three-bedroom, two-bathroom units. “With residences priced from R1.84 million to R2.4 million, Whistling Straits is ideal for young families who seek the exclusive lifestyle that Eagle Canyon offers, but have a limited budget,” notes Peet Strauss, development manager at the PGP Hyde Park office. “The fact that there is no transfer duty helps bring these units within the reach of first-time buyers.” Each double-storey townhouse has the option of a double garage, or a single garage and a carport. The units vary in size from 147 sqm to 182 sqm and each has its own garden.
“What makes this development particularly unique is that it will comply with green building codes, which is a first for a development in Eagle Canyon,” says Strauss. “This environmentally friendly building method is in line with the natural beauty of the estate, which is important to maintain.”
“Whistling Straits, which launched on 13 April 2014, is an attractive addition to Eagle Canyon and will allow even more people to access the ultimate in estate lifestyle,” concludes Strauss.
