New Development On Laaiplek Waterfront

A new residential development has been launched to market on the Cape West Coast, offering buyers the opportunity to acquire affordable beachfront property in a scenic and accessible location. “Harbour’s Edge” is being built right on the beachfront at Laaiplek, the quaint fishing harbour which lies adjacent to the town of Velddrif and the upmarket marina area of Port Owen, close to the mouth of the Berg River. This location is only 145km from Cape Town, with Vredenburg being the nearest major town, 25km away.

The plot and plan development totals 2.5ha in size, and is on the market exclusively through Pam Golding Properties (PGP). Prices range from R995 000 for a completed two-bedroomed home to R2.65 million for the largest three-bedroomed option. All prices are inclusive of VAT, with no transfer duties applicable.

PGP agent Aubrey Fourie says Harbour’s Edge will consist of a total of 67 residential units, nine of them occupying beachfront plots. “There is a wide range of plot and plan choices,” he says, “including six options for single storey homes and two for double-storey homes. The erven range in size from 250sqm to generous 440sqm, with the built footprint ranging from 116sqm to 154sqm homes. Eleven select plots will have complete free reign to design their own dream homes outside of these design guidelines.”

Fourie points out that the pricing is extremely competitive given the prime beachfront location. “There can be few places on the Cape coastline where one can buy a fully completed home on a beachfront plot, for under R2.75 million,” he says. “Every plot has some degree of either sea or harbour views, or both, and the building guidelines will ensure that these are not compromised.”

The location is not only a scenic one with direct beach access, but is also conveniently placed for access to the Berg River with its myriad outdoor activities, including fishing, canoeing, bird-watching and sailing. Shopping amenities are close at hand in Laaiplek, while the Velddrif Golf Course and Port Owen yacht basin are also nearby.

PGP’s area manager for the West Coast, Stephanie Wynne Cole, says the development lies just 140km from Cape Town, making it an ideal weekend or holiday getaway for those living in the city or in the surroundings communities of the Boland. “It would also make a wonderful home for retirees or those who work from home,” she adds.

Construction is expected to begin on a show-house shortly. It is anticipated that residents will be able to take occupation of their homes approximately six months after purchase.
