New residential development on Knysna lagoon

The first show house has been completed at the new residential development, Brenton on Lake Holiday Resort, situated right on the edge of the Knysna lagoon on the prime site of the former Brenton Holiday Resort. The site incorporates a lush rain forest with majestic trees, while eco-sustainable architecture forms the basis of the design style of the homes.

Ling Dobson, Pam Golding Properties’ area principal in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, marketers of stands in this exclusive new project, says the first phase has already been well received by the marketplace with eight sales concluded prior to the official launch on 16 December 2013. “Interest has been high among a variety of interested buyers, including executives, captains of industry and prominent sports achievers.”

Even Springbok World Cup winning coach, Jake White, recently acquired a stand in this idyllic location, in tranquil surrounds under ancient Milkwood and Yellowwood trees. As White says: “Owning a part of this special property is like holding the Web Ellis Cup – it is unique and a special privilege.”

Adds Dobson: “With only 62 stands in total, the first phase comprises 27 stands, selling at special launch prices varying from R580 000 for sites within the forest to R2.1 million for exclusive sites on the water’s edge. The stands are approximately 500 square metres in size. The completed and furnished show house gives any prospective buyer an ideal perspective of the architecture, luxury and lifestyle they can acquire, with phase one transfers just around the corner in April 2014.”

She says for decades, families have shared memorable vacations at Lake Brenton, and the developers’ vision is to create an ultimate getaway for holidaymakers combining sustainability, luxury and adventure all within a single eco-friendly environment, including nearby unspoilt beaches. This is to ensure that man and nature exist together in harmony.

The resort has strict environmental controls and encourages re-growth of the existing rain forest. There will also be recreational facilities including tennis courts, clubhouse and swimming pool. The resort also has its own private slipway for investors to enjoy all the water sports Knysna lagoon has to offer, including sailing, power boating, jet skiing, kite surfing, water skiing, canoeing and angling. The point on the north side of the lagoon is considered by many as the best in-shore spot for kite surfing.

The architectural style of the residential development retains its rural character and is designed to blend into the natural landscape, with a lightweight structural system, narrow spans, natural colours, quality finishes and a fresh interpretation of the traditional Knysna cabin. All homes will need to be in wood, glass and steel and raised off the ground, and incorporating the natural elements of ‘green living’. None of the existing trees may be felled. The architects and town planners have worked together to ensure minimum impact from the buildings on the site’s environment.
