The KwaZulu-Natal super-regional mall won the Spectrum Award for the best marketing campaign for its Gateway VIP launch. This is the second successive year Gateway scooped this award.

The annual SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards honour outstanding South African shopping centre marketing, with a focus on innovation, creative achievements and economic success. They were announced at the 17th Congress of the SACSC held in Sandton recently.

Amanda Stops, SACSC CEO, says: “Marketing is used to identify the customer, to keep the customer and to satisfy the customer. In doing this, we give a choice: to bore, to shout or to seduce – or to find our own way of doing things and use what we know about the industry to achieve maximum results in line with our objectives.”

“The Footprint Marketing Awards provide the opportunity for winners to receive national recognition through their achievements,” says Stops. “And the Spectrum Award winner is the top performer among an excellent pool of entries. Gateway Theatre of Shopping’s Gateway VIP launch was selected from all the Gold Footprint Marketing Winners as the sweeping winner, recognising the overall excellence in the industry.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping is owned by Old Mutual Properties and its marketing agency is Primedia Lifestyle. It also made a splash by taking four gold Footprint Marketing Awards for its VIP Launch, sponsorship and income generating strategy, My Gateway – Visual Merchandising and Material World Vodacom Durban July Preview Fashion Show 2012.

Canal Walk Shopping Centre in Cape Town also sparkled with three gold awards for its The Little Mermaid, S.M.I.L.E with Canal Walk and Road to 70,000 Facebook Fans.
