Creating a commanding regional retail attraction, developers Flanagan & Gerard today announced that confirmed anchor tenants for the hard-hitting Heidelberg Mall tenant mix are retail heavyweights Checkers, Woolworths, Edgars, Game and Dis-Chem.

The R600 million Heidelberg Mall is an innovative joint venture between the Lesedi Council and private developers. Developer Flanagan & Gerard is one of South Africa’s leading shopping centre developers and is also a co-owner of the 35,000sqm Heidelberg Mall. The company’s investment and involvement was facilitated by Marble Gold (Pty) Ltd, the joint venture partner of the Lesedi Council.

Heidelberg Mall will offer a complete shopping experience with retailers especially chosen to meet the needs of shoppers in the region. This means a strong fashion focus. Favourite fashion brands include Edgars, Woolworths, Truworths, Ackermans, Legit, Identity, Pep, Pick n Pay Clothing, Cape Union Market, Old Khaki and Shoe City.

For those who love playing, Heidelberg Mall will feature a BT Games and Toys R Us. If playing outdoors is your passion, there’s Trappers Trading and Drimac.

MTN and Samsung will keep shoppers connected and other retailers already signed up for Heidelberg Mall include Bargain Books, Pep Home, Signature Cosmetics, Cappuccinos and Barber SA.

This is only the beginning. “We are making excellent leasing progress. So far, the mall is 74% let,” explains Flanagan & Gerard executive director Patrick Flanagan.

It is little wonder that Heidelberg Mall is attracting top retailers. It benefits from a prime location at the Jacobs Road interchange of the N3 highway and excellent regional access for Nigel, Balfour Greylingstad, Villiers and surrounds. It is also enjoys top-notch design by local VDM Architects in partnership with award-winning specialist retail architects MDS Architecture.

“Heidelberg Mall will be a real retail asset that serves the region’s consumers with quality shopping variety under one roof, providing greater access to important products and services for the community,” says Buti Mokoena, the local businessman who heads Marble Gold. “By being located and designed to complement the existing Heidelberg CBD, it will boost retail choice in the wider area.”

Besides creating an excellent shopping destination, Heidelberg Mall is also introducing many economic benefits, such as 1,900 to 2,100 construction jobs, 800 to 1,200 permanent positions and season employment opportunities. These will come from the local community wherever possible and, where available, construction materials will be sourced locally.
