Exclusive Somerset West Suburb Offers Ideal Family Living

The suburb of Nature’s Valley is one of the most exclusive in Somerset West, located close to historic wine estates such as Vergelegen, Fleur du Cap and Lourensford. Established in the late 1970’s, it is situated on the north-eastern edge of the town, backing onto the Helderberg Nature Reserve and enjoying a magnificent mountain backdrop. Pam Golding Properties (PGP) reports that it is extremely popular with young professionals with families.

PGP agents Willis Coetzee and Lorraine Joubert say the average age of home-owners in the area is between 35 and 60 – confirming its status as a prime suburb for family buyers. “One of the key draw-cards for the area is the proximity of a number of leading schools, including Beaumont Primary, the private Somerset House and the dual medium Parel Valley High School, which was ranked 10th in the list of top performing schools in the Western Cape last year,” they say. “Buyers are also attracted by the spacious family homes on sizable plots, as well as the convenient location – while the suburb is far enough out of town to offer privacy and tranquillity, it still offers easy access to shops, medical care and sporting facilities. Golfers enjoy the proximity to Erinvale Golf Course, while the Strand beachfront is only 10 minutes’ drive away, and Cape Town International Airport can be reached in half an hour.”

Nature’s Valley consists mainly of free-standing homes, with prices typically ranging from around R2.5 million to R8 million, going up to R10 million and beyond for some of the suburb’s larger luxury properties.

Among the properties currently for sale in Nature’s Valley exclusively through PGP is an extensive home set on over 4260sqm, offering over 850sqm of living space. The warm and inviting home is set within a magnificent mature garden, including large trees that are home to three grey owls. The pool and entertainment area are located at the back of the home, providing an extremely private and sheltered area for relaxation.

Coetzee says the property is designed with two distinct sections – the first providing a family home with three bedrooms, a spacious oak kitchen, study and private living areas, and the second providing guest accommodation in four bedroom suites, each with its own kitchenette and balcony. “This portion of the home has been run as a popular guesthouse for the past nine years,” he says, “and currently has forward bookings from a number of regular visitors. It could continue to generate a substantial steady income for the buyers, should they choose to continue this business (subject to all necessary approvals). Alternatively the property would make an ideal home for the extended family or for dual living purposes.”

The property includes a double automated garage and a borehole which provides ample water for the pool and garden. It has air-conditioning and an alarm system, and is on the market at R7.5 million.
