Demand For Affordable Properties Is Strong At Mitchells Plain Affordable Housing Development

The WestCape Villas affordable housing development, which was launched in 2009 by the Cape Town Community Housing Company, has only 70 units left for sale and these have been given to the property marketing company IHPC to sell, says Nareema Peters and Joy Miller, the IHPC agents handling the selling of these units. 

The units on offer are two bedroom one bathroom units, priced from R349 000 to R389 000, and are freestanding/semi-detached duplex units, with 51 m² and small gardens.

The WestCape Villas development is ideal for first time home buyers and young couples who need affordable, secure housing, but need to be near public transport and amenities such as shopping centres or gyms. This development is sited on Morgenster and Weltevreden roads in Mitchells Plain and is, in fact, right across the road from Westgate Mall and a Virgin Active gym, says Miller. It is also a five minute drive from the biggest mall in Mitchells Plain, Promenade Mall.

Vanguard Drive is nearby, which gives easy access to the R300, N2 and N1, and there are several schools within an easy commuting distance.

“This development is ideal for young couples who want to be close to family and, considering that the rental of units such as these would be almost the same as buying it outright,” says Miller, “it makes sense to buy rather than rent here.”

If a 100% bond was granted on the R389 000 price, the monthly repayments would be R3,883.69, very close to the rental of a two bedroom home, said Miller.
