National companies are streaming to Nelspruit to open regional offices and the trend is spurring the development of luxury lifestyle estates in and around the city.

Nelspruit has experienced fast growth as the Mpumalanga capital and the establishment of regional and branch business offices in the city has created a strong demand for upmarket residences among top businessmen relocating from Gauteng and other city centres, as well as professionals opening practices in the burgeoning city, says Juan Botha, owner of the local RealNet Anker franchise.
Nelspruit is also a gateway to some of the country’s best eco-adventure activities and world-class destinations such as the Kruger National Park – and only 100km from Mozambique’s famous unspoilt beaches, he says. “Coupled with the city’s outstanding shopping facilities, casinos and entertainment venues, this creates excellent opportunities for investors and new business.”
Lucille van Oene, RealNet Anker’s specialist agent in lifestyle estates, says discerning buyers have a wide choice of exclusive estates with prices starting at around R3m.
“The most popular choice at the moment is the Shandon Eco Reserve, which offers 1ha stands. Professionals, especially in the medical sector, favour this estate due to the tranquillity, bush living at the edge of town, and excellent security. Asking prices for completed homes are all above R3m but buyers are prepared to pay for the privilege of a carefree lifestyle and the opportunity to observe a variety of game roaming the estate,” she says.
A more recent lifestyle development, she adds, is the Elawini Lifestyle Estate close to the Government offices and the Riverside Mall that offers an exclusive health club and wide views across the Lowveld escarpment. Full title stands as well as building packages are available and the estate is particularly popular among government officials due to the close proximity of their offices.
Meanwhile The Rest Eco Estate – another recent development – in central Nelspruit is a popular choice among buyers with young families as well as young professionals. The estate offers sweeping landscapes, small game and a private school on the estate. Stands are available and buyers can build their own homes.
Two luxury golf estates are also sought-after by professionals and businessmen. The White River Country Estate in neighbouring White River is situated next to the popular Uplands College while the Matumi Golf Estate forms part of the Nelspruit Golf Club, which is viewed as one of the top courses in the country. Both estates are well established with top-notch security measures in place. Home prices start at R2,8m.
