Pick n Pay achieves 20% energy reduction

Pick n Pay joins a prestigious group of JSE-listed companies with an inclusion in the JSE 100 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.

Pick n Pay is the only retailer to be included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which was announced in Johannesburg on 22 November.

Bronwen Rohland, Director of Sustainability at Pick n Pay, said, “We are honoured to be included in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index as it recognises the continued focus that Pick n Pay places not only on reducing its carbon footprint, but also increasing its level of public disclosure with regard to carbon-related activities.”

Pick n Pay’s disclosure score improved from 86 points out of a possible 100 points in 2011 to 96 points in 2012.

Earlier this year, Pick n Pay achieved the target it has set in achieving a 20% energy reduction, compared to the baseline which was set in 2008. The company has now set a target of a 40% energy reduction target for 2015 based on the 2008 baseline.
