Checkers and House & Home re-open at Greenacres Shopping Centre

Following a devastating fire and nearly nine months of construction work, the Checkers and House & Home stores in the Greenacres Shopping Centre officially re-opened to the public today. Both stores were severely damaged due to a fire that started in the early hours of the morning on the 26th of January 2012.

Brent Starr, Centre Manager of Greenacres Shopping Centre said; “The fire was truly a devastating event for the centre and we are thankful that no-one was injured at the time. The construction has been steadily progressing throughout the year and we are very pleased that the project completed an entire month ahead of schedule.”

The project cost over R37 million and during the duration of the project over 7500m² of tiles were laid and 2,300 tons of rubble and waste was removed from the site.  The development project was managed by Liberty Properties development arm on behalf of the property’s owners, Liberty Group.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all our shoppers and tenants for their patience and understanding during the construction period. We wish both Checkers and House & Home a successful opening day and a warm welcome back to Greenacres” concluded Brent Starr.
